Used the voronoi fracture effector to create this metal ball shattering another surface.
I learnt a lot about Voronoi fracture on the Cinema 4D guide page. Especially that it is possible to control the shattering, in terms of size and position.
Then with the help of a shader field, I  scattered the particles as if they were being blasted away.
